The Big 4-0. There’s no escaping the magnitude of this milestone. For most of us, this is the decade that brings us to the midway point in our lives, and that wealth of experience begins to make its presence felt on your face.

But fear not, handsome: if you’ve entered your forties, you’re in good company, with many of Hollywood’s biggest names sharing this fine vintage.

Much has been made of 46-year-old Jared Leto’s agelessness – the actor himself couldn’t even correctly identify his age in a series of photos. Leonardo Di Caprio also seems to have tapped some eternal youth fountain, while Matthew McConaughey has a better rig than most twenty-year-olds.

So what’s the secret to looking fresh in your forties? Well, hopefully you’ve laid a solid foundation with a skincare routine in your twenties and thirties, but if you’re new to this whole ‘self-care’ situation, fear not. With these simple skincare tips for men in their forties, you can still come out of this decade looking more Matt Damon than Ben Affleck.

Bring out the big guns

Let’s not beat around the bush: if you haven’t already started, now’s the time to bring out the big guns. Hyaluronic acid is one of the most powerful anti-ageing ingredients, known for its ability to trap and retain moisture. Twice a day, use a facial wash that contains hyaluronic acid and vitamin E to fight signs of ageing while you cleanse.

Stay hydrated, inside and out

Your skin starts to lose elasticity and collagen steadily now, so it literally doesn’t bounce back like it used to. Help it out by downing at least eight glasses of water a day, eating a diet that’s rich in fruits and vegetables, and nourishing your skin from the outside in by using a men’s facial moisturiser that’s packed with natural oils such as sesame, avocado, wheatgerm and cocoa butter.

Hold onto your hair

If things are starting to look a little thin on top, fear not, our follicly challenged friend. We’ve packed our  2 in 1 shampoo with peppermint and nettle, two all-natural ingredients that have been shown to stimulate hair growth by increasing blood circulation to the scalp. Lather up with this conditioning shampoo to lock down those locks for years to come.
